Art Therapy and Clinical Counselling

Qualified clinicians can use arts mediums in therapy sessions to suit the needs of the individual or group.  Arts therapists may use art in therapy, as a way to process emotions, using concepts or themes directly known to participants.  Art therapy can also be used as a kind of language, that is to access unconscious imagery, patterns, and feelings, and to assign  meaning to them.  It may also be used as therapy in and of itself, such as for sensory stimulation and memory retrieval.

Regular art-therapy sessions can foster the development of self-esteem and increased self-confidence.  Art therapy can help to create and reinforce healthy habits, and can explore life-affirming expression and enthusiasm!

Art therapy can lead to personal "aha" moments or the achievement of greater clarity. Therapeutic-art sessions provide the space in which we can quiet our minds and meditate on themes or issues using artistic mediums.  In this way, art-making in therapy can also serve as a relaxation tool that may improve memory or develop heightened levels of concentration and focus.

Not Sure About Art Therapy? Want Talk Therapy Instead? That's Cool, We Can Do That.

Some people are not sure if art therapy is right for them.  Some people are open to some aspects of art therapy, yet not fully wanting to jump in and base sessions around it. For example, we encourage journal writing, and many people are open to this.  We are qualified clinicians, and support you in the way that works best for you- art or not art! Just let us know what you are looking for.
